Dom DeLuise prevailed over co-nominees Kristin Scott Thomas ("Under the Cherry Moon"), Zelda Rubinstein ("Poltergeist II: The Other Side") and Oscar champs Louise Fletcher ("Invaders from Mars") and Beatrice Straight ("Power").
He was nominated for two serious industry prizes but lost both. He was up for best TV comedy actor for appearing in the short-lived series "Lotsa Luck" (1973) as a lovable loser who works in the lost and found department of a New York City bus company. He was beat by Jack Klugman ("The Odd Couple").
Dom DeLuise was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for appearing in a TV adaptation of his hit flick "All Dogs Go to Heaven." Performing the voice of canine Itchy Itchiford, he lost the trophy for best performer in an animated program to Rob Paulsen ("Pinky and the Brain").
